With the difficulty bomb ramping up the difficulty we saw a lot of miners leaving the network, from 190 ths of power down to 150ghs of hashing power.

Therefore, when the DAG file size exceeds a GPU rig’s memory capacity, the rig either becomes slow or unable to mine ETH. On Ethereum, the dataset is expected to reach 4GB at block 11,520,000. This is forecasted to happen between Dec 23 or 24, 2020. When this happens, it phases out 4GB mining rigs off the Ethereum blockchain.

Mining on a M1 Mac I've had my M1 MacBook Air for a bit of time now, and I also recently started mining Ethereum. Each ethash does 64 *random* 128 byte reads from the DAG in global memory. That's 8k bytes per hash that are scattered random over a 1.3 GB DAG; there will not be any caching. At 25 MH/s, you are doing 1.6 billion 128 byte DAG accesses.

Sum up the total amount of memory of all your GPUs and add 4GB more on top of it. For example, if you have 2 GPUs with 3GB VRAM each and 1 GPU with 6GB VRAM, then the Virtual memory size is calculated like: 2*3 + 1*6 + 4 = 16GB 2.

Apr 14, 2020 · If you have multiple-GPU setup all of your GPU’s need to load this file. Without DAG loading Ethash mining doesn’t work. This is a basic principle. DAG file constantly increases. 2GB GPU’s have stopped mining Ethereum at the end of the 2016 year. 3GB GPU’s have stopped mining Ethereum at the end of the 2018 year.
